At its meeting on August 12, the CPASA board voted unanimously to protest the renewed application of Arbuckle Aggregates LLC to the Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) for a permit for surface mining in 575 acres in northern Johnston County near Mill Creek, Oklahoma.
The proposed surface mine is above the Arbuckle Simpson Aquifer and poses a threat to the aquifer, especially Mill Creek and the headwaters of Pennington Creek. For these reasons, the CPASA board urges you to protest this permit application.
You may have protested Arbuckle Aggregates' first application submitted in June 2009. The company withdrew that application in May 2010, effectively voiding more than 200 protests which had been filed. Then, the company immediately submitted a new application. Protests to the old application are null and void. To make your voice heard on the new application, you will need to submit a new protest.
A copy of a protest form can be viewed here. Please print it for your use or create your own and mail your completed protest to:
Oklahoma Department of Mines
2915 North Classen Blvd.
Suite 213
Oklahoma City, Ok 73106
The deadline for protest has been extended to August 25, so act quickly. If you have any questions, please contact cpasa@cpasa.net.
